This past weekend we raced the Seeley 200, the first race of the season for us. The race went great. We went into it with a "gameplan" (a run/rest schedule, really), stuck with that plan, and it worked. We placed 6th of 30 starters, and I consider that a great finish given the strong competition in this race; this was a field of great mushers.
Most noteworthy, I think, was how easy this race was, primarily for the dogs (it wasn't super easy for me because I went into it sick and already sleep deprived, sleeping for only 2 hours the night before the race, and a total of 1 1/2 hours on the race). I intended on keeping a relatively relaxed, easy pace for the first three legs and the dogs did it -- trotting at a good pace, but at a pace that I knew no one would get hurt. We finished strong, and with a full 12 dog team.
You can see photos from the race in the photos section; all of the photos are from the 3rd leg of the race (from Lincoln to Whitetail Ranch), the only leg run in daylight.
